Renovation works to enhance the energy efficiency of the Expo Hotel Barcelona have begun.
These improvements are funded under the Energy Efficiency and Circular Economy Program for Tourism Companies in Catalunya, with the support of the European Union under the Next Generation EU framework and Spain’s Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, as well as the involvement of the Directorate General of Tourism of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
The planned actions focus on boosting the building’s energy efficiency and reducing its energy consumption. The key interventions will consist of:
- Upgraded external fixtures: replacing frames and glass with fittings that offer improved thermal performance.
- New aerothermal system: replacing existing gas-powered boilers to enhance energy efficiency.
- Enhanced ventilation systems: upgrading units and installing heat recovery systems.
- Advanced control systems: integrating systems with the general Building Management System (BMS) for better energy management.
- Energy-saving features: installing systems that activate when rooms are unoccupied, or windows are open.
- Efficient lighting: replacing existing lighting with LED technology to lower energy consumption.
Upon completion, these upgrades will greatly improve the building’s energy performance, achieving up to a 69% reduction in non-renewable primary energy consumption and cutting CO2 emissions by as much as 72%.
